Liebherr expands axial-piston offerings

At this year’s IFPE 2023 show, Liebherr Components presented its expanded line of axial piston pumps — including two new pumps with nine nominal sizes.

The Liebherr DPVO 550i variable-displacement pump is built for extreme working conditions.

First, the Bulle, Switzerland company is enlarging its product portfolio of variable displacement open-circuit pumps with the DPVO 550i, a product with a nominal size of 550 cc (550 cm3), which can also be used as a 1,100 cc double pump. DPVO axial piston pumps have a swash-plate design and are built for high-pressure applications. They reportedly stand out through their large swivel angle as well as a high-pressure resistance. The pumps offer a 100% throughput capability.

To keep pace with ever-increasing demands for availability and durability, the new size 550 cc was developed in close cooperation with customers for use under extreme working conditions, according to company officials. Thanks to its robust and reliable design, it is particularly suitable for mining and maritime applications, mechanical and plant engineering, special vehicle construction and tunnelling.

“Like all pumps in this product family, the DPVO 550i is characterized by a particular robustness. In the view of digitalization, this product is ready to incorporate various sensor technologies,” explained Guillaume Bonnetot, General Manager Systems at Liebherr-Mining Equipment Colmar SAS. “We look forward to seeing Liebherr’s components in use in our own machines.”

New LH30VO100
Modularity is the signature trait of the LH30VO family of swashplate-type axial piston pumps, with nominal sizes of 28, 45, 85 and now the new 100 cc nominal size unit. Among other attributes, the LH30VO100 consists of a modular system of eight controllers with a variety of combination options.

The new 100 cc size LH30VO swashplate-type pump offers eight controller options.

This includes, for example, an electric proportional pressure control with a negative or positive characteristic curve, a load-sensing control, and a remote pressure control. The electrically-operated controllers have been supplemented by a 12V solenoid variant with or without cable breakage detection. The controllers cover most applications in mobile hydraulics — for example steering pumps, fan drives and drives for equipment cylinders. Nominal pressure rating is up to 280 bar (4,061 psi).

The variable through-drive concept allows the selection and addition of further pumps, when installing them on a machine. In doing so, Liebherr Components fulfills the growing demand for products with a high degree of flexibility. With all its nominal sizes, the entire LH30VO pump family handles a wide range of applications from mobile machinery and stationary hydraulics, for primary work functions to secondary applications.

High-power double motor
The Liebherr axial piston DMVA double motor series has a swash plate design for open and closed circuits. It offers high power density along with control flexibility and was specially developed for use in mobile machinery operating in harsh environments.

The inverse drive with a 22° swivel angle is well suited for applications that require an adjustable displacement. The flanged double motors are available in nominal sizes from 165-108 to 215-165. Nominal pressure rating is 450 bar (6,527 psi), with maximum pressure to 500 bar (7,252 psi). The rotary groups can be adjusted separately or in parallel. A common port plate simplifies plumbing. And the DMVA series is available with most common controls.

The DMVA product family is especially popular for use in winch and drilling drives. Thanks to its back-to-back design, the two smaller rotary groups allow for significantly higher speeds as compared to a larger rotary group. Both swashplates can be swiveled independently or parallel to each other. The common connecting plate, in turn, makes the piping installation much easier.

George and Peter Allpass of Alpine Logging based in South Africa, the manufacturer of cable logging winch systems for the timber industry worldwide, said “One of the advantages of the DMVA double motor is its impressive maximum speed. The inverse piston design with a swivel angle of 22° is very efficient and has a high power density, making it ideal for applications that require a wide conversion range. Not only does the product perform with great reliability, but the support and service by Liebherr are above our expectations.”
