IFPE Download: Liebherr premieres crawler dozers with operator assistance systems

At Conexpo/IFPE 2020, Liebherr introduced the new-generation PR 736 G8 crawler dozers. Electronically controlled Liebherr working hydraulics for fast and precise grading, and three levels of smart operator assistance make the machines well-suited for grading and mining use.

The new Liebherr OAS – Operator Assistance Systems on the generation 8 crawler dozers offer three assistance levels: “Free Grade“ for active blade stabilization during fine grading, “Definition Grade“ for automatic blade positioning when creating 2D grades and “3D Grade“ as an optional GPS machine control system to model complex terrain shapes, among others, with standard roof-mounted GPS/GNSS antennas. Liebherr Active Sensor Control to stabilize all blade axis is on board as standard. Two independent, permanently mounted integrated sensor circuits (gyroscopic and inertia sensors) allow for particularly high grading speeds and perfect fine grading at all times.

Precise and powerful hydraulics help ensure high productivity and outstanding grading behavior. The strong electronically pilot-controlled work hydraulics allow for swift, highly precise work cycles. It can be adjusted to the operating conditions and the operator’s requirements.

Apart from the hydrostatic drive system, the proactive performance adjustment system and the Eco mode were both taken over from the successful generation 6 crawler dozers. Besides high pushing performance, this allows for particularly economical operation. The new six-way blade with increased capacity (up to 7.27 cu. yard /5.56 cu. m) improves production output and facilitates grading with its optimized linkage geometry.

The PR 736 G8 is powered by a recently developed Liebherr EVO series diesel engine (160 kW/217 bhp). It meets emission level 4f, its exhaust gases being cleaned by a combination between a DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst) and a SCR filter (selective catalytic reduction and particle filter). Customers in less-regulated markets have additional engine options.

Machine operating weight is up to 56,218 lb (25.5 t). Various blade versions (straight, semi-U and 6-way) are available to cover a large application range. Blade capacities range from 5.36 to 7.27 cu.yd (4.10 to 5.56 cu. m).

The operator’s cabin offers many features to make work even more ergonomic and productive: For the first time, a grab handle with integrated joystick for the rear ripper is used in the 25 ton class. This guarantees stable seating when driving in uneven terrain.

A large 9 in. display is the information and control station for all relevant operating data. Through the display, the operator can precisely adjust and save the driving and steering response to one’s personal requirements. The main functions can still be controlled by means of haptic buttons and keys. The display is used for configuration and fine adjustments. The standard LiDAT fleet management system delivers information on the crawler tractor’s operation. This includes machine position, operating and usage duration, fuel consumption and service interval information.
