Liebherr expands hydraulic-cylinder portfolio

By Ken Korane | May 14, 2019

Liebherr unveiled a new hydraulic cylinder series for a pressure range of up to 260 bar (3,770 psi) at bauma 2019 in Munich. Now with three distinct production series — the well-established 380 bar cylinder line, the ISO 6022-compliant industrial range, and the new 260 bar cylinders — the company has expanded its offerings of standard cylinders to cover a wide range of different industry-specific requirements.

Liebherr offers three families of standard hydraulic cylinders for mobile and industrial applications.

For hydraulic-system engineers and users, it’s now quick and straightforward to customize a standard product from a wide range of configuration possibilities and options, which allows for individualized, application-specific product designs, said company officials.

The cost-effective 260 bar series products essentially give customers a variety of basic hydraulic cylinders that can be used in many demanding conditions. With a wide range of possible dimensions, fastening types, oil connections and piston rod coatings, the 260 bar series offers the required flexibility to suit diverse applications.

It consists of 28 basic piston/piston-rod diameter combinations. There are four available mounting types and two alternative oil connections for each of these basic variants. Depending on the environmental impact, a single-chrome or double-chrome coating is possible. To ensure the most economical solution for the target application, however, no functional expansions such as sensors or cushioning systems are planned for this series.

The highly resilient 380 bar series is mainly used in mobile applications. The hydraulic cylinders are recommended when long-lasting and robust products are required in highly dynamic applications. The “eye-eye mounting” was specially designed for connection to construction machinery and helps ensure trouble-free operation.

Liebherr also offers packages with the proprietary LiView position transducer as an option, for reliable recording of linear movements during work. And piston-rod coatings can be adapted to suit most any environmental conditions.

The ISO 6022-compliant series offers cylinders specially geared to the multifaceted requirements and demands of stationary applications, according to Liebherr. Installation dimensions and mounting options comply with standard specifications, yet users can determine selected details for a high degree of flexibility and individuality for every application.

Thus, the ISO 6022 range provides 24 basic piston/piston-rod rated diameter combinations while also extending the dimensions defined in the standard. Six mounting types and four alternative oil connections are available for each of these basic variants. Again, users can select single-chrome or double-chrome coatings. The hydraulic cylinders can also be equipped with a wide range of additional options such as position transducers, end-of-stroke cushioning, proximity switches and pressure sensors.

Now with three production series, customers can take advantage of Liebherr’s complete family of standard cylinders that offer cost-effective products suitable for a wide range of mobile and industrial applications.
