The International Fluid Power Society (IFPS) honors individuals who have proven their commitment to the fluid power industry and have significantly contributed to technological advancements. At Fluid Power World, our editorial team is thrilled that contributing author Robert Sheaf has been inducted into the Fluid Power Hall of Fame Class of 2024. Sheaf is best known for his troubleshooting challenges in our print and digital magazines, which help sharpen engineers’ skills.
Sheaf has 50 years of fluid power experience and has taught fluid power for 43 years throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Before starting his own business, he worked for Pabco Fluid Power, General Motors, and Kinnear. In 1981, he started his own hydraulic field service, training, and consulting business, and then founded Certified Fluid Consultants (CFC) in 1990, which currently operates as CFC Industrial Training.
For more than 35 years, Sheaf has been actively involved with IFPS, serving as a board member, vice president, president, certification committee chair, and president of publications. He holds numerous IFPS certifications and is acknowledged as a lifetime honorary director.
IFPS has also honored Constantine Kosarzecki as a posthumous inductee for his dedication to the fluid power industry. Kosarzecki was a Holocaust survivor, Polish immigrant, and U.S. Army veteran. His journey in fluid power began in 1958 when he worked as a draftsman for the Army Ballistic Missile Agency (ABMA).
Throughout his career, he worked for Mead Fluid Power, Parker Hannifin, Fluid Power System, and M.T.E. (Delta Power). He co-founded Modular Controls in 1972 and served as the VP of engineering, overseeing all engineering design, manufacturing, and production. Under his leadership, Modular Controls became the leading manufacturer of cartridge valves, collaborating closely with major companies, such as I.H. Case, John Deere, Caterpillar, and others, on manifold and valve designs. In 1993, he introduced the next generation of cartridge valves and founded Command Controls Corp, which Bucher Industries eventually acquired. Kosarzecki is known as the “grandfather of the hydraulic cartridge valves” and a pioneer in fluid power technology.
