Continental plant contributes $50,000 to high school athletic complex

Continental’s industrial products plant has donated $50,000 over a five-year period to the St. Marys Community Foundation and the Rough Riders Philanthropic Organization to build a new athletic complex and stadium for St. Marys Memorial High School.

“We welcome the opportunity to contribute to a project we believe will provide the young student-athletes of our community a facility that will help them achieve their goals,” said Steven Zenar, plant manager. “We are pleased to make this donation as it is reflective of Continental’s commitment to the communities in which we operate.”

The funds will help the St. Marys Community Foundation and the Rough Riders Philanthropic Organization raise funds to support the building of a new stadium and athletic complex at the High School.

The RPA’s campaign has received more than 150 gifts from $50 to $250,000.

“All gifts matter, what we are trying to do is give our kids, cheerleaders and band members a place they can all be proud of,” said Mike Makley, executive director of the St. Marys Community Foundation, who is receiving and managing all of the RPA’s pledges.

“Everything we are doing for this project is to put our best foot forward with a competitive facility, for regular season games and for playoff games. This will be one of the nicest stadiums in our area and we are so grateful to Continental,” said Honorary Co-Chair, Galen Cisco. “Our kids deserve it and Continental realized that.”

Continental’s St. Marys plant has been in operation for almost 80 years, and since that time has been a valued contributor to the community. The facility manufactures a variety of rubber products for automotive, agricultural and industrial applications.
