GEMCO 958A Embedded Linear Displacement Transducer (LDT)

The new GEMCO 958A embedded Linear Displacement Transducer (LDT) from AMETEK Factory Automation was designed specifically with the needs of the mobile hydraulics market in mind. The rugged, rod style LDT is designed to fit entirely inside a hydraulic or clevis style cylinder and provide absolute analog feedback in the most-demanding applications and extreme operating environments.

The highly versatile 958A LDT offers absolute accuracy and reliability with high resolution and precision repeatability. The embedded LDT is totally installed inside the cylinder, which protects the transducer from outside conditions. It uses the latest generation of AMETEK’s field-proven magnetostrictive position-sensing technology to give absolute analog position, accurate to 0.04% of the programmable sensing distance. A variety of analog outputs are available to meet user needs.

Embedded GEMCO 958A within a hydraulic cylinder

The 958A is the ideal cylinder position sensor for applications in which there is no room to mount a standard LDT. Applications include agricultural, construction and mining equipment and commercial vehicles. Its embedded design makes the 958A resistant to contaminants and other environmental conditions.

The 958A is IP68 rated. Its rugged and durable mill-duty construction exceeds competitive offerings. Its vibration resistance is lab tested at 30 Gs, and its shock resistance is lab tested to 1000 Gs, greatly exceeding other competitive offerings.

The compact unit has three unique features:

  • It can be powered from 8 to 30 Vdc at 1.6 W, making it easy to fit into a variety of systems.
  • It features an auto-tuning capability, which allows it to sense a magnet other than the standard ring magnet and adjusts its signal strength accordingly.
  • It includes a unique built-in diagnostics capability that displays the health of the unit and helps aid in troubleshooting problems if they occur.

The 958A is easy to install and set up. Units can be ordered in span lengths from 2 to 100 in. (50 to 2540 mm) and come standard with either integral cable assemblies, bare leads or M12 style connectors. Custom configurations are available to meet specific end user requirements.
