Danfoss and AGCO design first completely joystick-operated combine in Europe

Danfoss Power Solutions and AGCO are highlighting their Fendt IDEALDrive solution at Agritechnica this week. IDEALDrive is a joystick steering solution for harvester combines. By enabling the removal of the steering column and steering wheel, the solution allows for an unobstructed view of the area directly in front of the combine. All of the steering column functions — from the steering wheel to the turn signals — are integrated in the solution’s design.

Danfoss Power and AGCO joystick-operated combineThis solution consists of Danfoss’ new JS1-SbW joystick and EHD electrohydraulic steering valve. The control architecture between the joystick and valve is fail-operational — a redundant system providing added safety and flexibility.

Both companies have shown leadership and innovation in regard to designing machines that are more productive, easier to handle and more comfortable for the operator.

“This pilot project with AGCO allowed us to develop our steer-by-wire technology for the general market,” said Ida Salamana, Principal Account Manager for Danfoss Power Solutions. Integrating a steer-by-wire solution from Danfoss results in better visibility, less operator fatigue and higher productivity — all factors in creating a positive operator experience.

“In our view, the Danfoss solution is clearly the best on the market right now — both in terms of how it functions technically and the benefits it offers for the farmer sitting in the cab,” said Brandon Montgomery, Senior Marketing Manager at AGCO. “Working with Danfoss on the project has been a very positive experience.”

Both Danfoss and AGCO will be present at AGRITECHNICA 2019. Visitors at the show will be able to experience the steer-by-wire solution using a simulator at the Danfoss booth.

This is just another way that Danfoss continues to place operator experience at the forefront of agricultural machine design, the company said. The design recently received a DLG Innovation Award, silver medal.

Learn about the partnership and award-winning solution at the Danfoss booth in Hall 16, Booth B20 or the AGCO booth at Hall 20, Stand B14.
