Bailey International now offers quick turnaround on custom gear pumps

After seeing the success through its offering of Salami hydraulic pumps and valves as custom products, Bailey International decided it was time to introduce its own custom gear pumps. This program allows businesses to tailor their gear pumps to their exact specifications, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency for their unique applications.

Peter VanKempen, Director of Operations for Bailey’s MVP (Motors, Valves, Pumps) Program, said they saw a need to start with a customizable or configurable gear pump line. “We’re proud to be the largest supplier of Salami products in North America. We have found these products to be very easy for OEMs to fit into their packages with us,” he said. “And we are constantly striving to innovate and meet the evolving needs of our customers.”

Available for both one-off designs or larger orders, the design process is simple. VanKampen said that each of these designs is application-driven. The customer delivers their specifications, and Bailey supplies pumps as close to those specs as possible. They also work with local partners to help with machining, and then assemble and test upon completion.

VanKempen noted that these custom pumps are better than a standard design because users quickly benefit from ease of installation and energy efficiencies for their engines and other related components.

Transitioning its production lines to accommodate custom designs was simple and quick because Bailey offers a variety of custom products already, from valves to HPUs and cylinder to controls. Additionally, it acquired Hydrolico about two years ago. “Hydrolico was already performing within these concepts and applications at both of their facilities,” VanKampen said. “If the components are in stock, it usually only takes 1-5 working days, depending on what type of work needs to be done to create the product. Of course, this all depends on component availability and current workload.”

To ensure quick turnaround, VanKampen suggests doing your homework before starting to investigate the custom design process. “It’s extremely helpful when customers have specific details about their application ready when asking for a custom or standard pump,” he said. “Knowing the displacement(s), driveshaft, mounting flange, porting (sizes required), rotation, rpm, and desired working pressure will help us make the best possible product for you.”

In the end, VanKampen said that although cost may come into play, “It is always worth it to have the correct products configured specifically to your machinery.”
