Atlas Copco has released its XAS 110 compressor, which requires minimal costs to own and operate. The compressor delivers 110 cfm of air power for a variety of pneumatic tools, such as breakers and chippers, while minimizing service times and fuel consumption. The unit is part of Atlas Copco’s latest generation of portable compressors—Series 8.
The XAS 110 is compact and lightweight. Its footprint is just 26 square feet for easy maneuverability through narrow, cramped jobsites. Its small footprint also gives operators more space to move around the compressor when using pneumatic tools, and it makes storage in a garage or rental yard easy. The compressor weighs 1,100 pounds—as much as 250 lb less than similar compressors—cutting fuel costs associated with towing.
The XAS 110 is equipped with a 22-horsepower Kubota diesel engine. The engine meets Tier 4 Final emission standards without requiring exhaust aftertreatment components or filters, giving the operator maximum uptime between service intervals. The compressor features a stepless, fully automatic regulator, which optimizes fuel consumption by adjusting the engine’s speed to accommodate air demand. This allows the operator to maximize his or her productivity between refills. The XAS 110 also features an anti-airlock system that guarantees starting by eliminating the risk of fuel becoming trapped by air.
Atlas Copco designed the XAS 110 for fast and simple maintenance; there are no special tools required and components are easily accessible. The compressor features a centralized draining point that allows technicians to drain all fluids into one receptacle, saving time and hassle associated with multiple ports. In addition, air filters simply clip into place, making change-outs quick and easy. The unit’s encased wire routings enhance protection and longevity while a two-stage air intake filter with a service indicator prevents dust and dirt from flowing into the engine and, ultimately, the compressor. The service indicator also alerts the operator when the filter needs changing.
The XAS 110 features Atlas Copco’s legendary HardHat canopy, which is made of highly durable, weather-resistant polyethylene. The compressor’s canopy resists corrosion and fading. The unit’s frame also features a triple layer anti-corrosion zinc-rich primer and powder coat paint. These features eliminate the need to repaint while contributing to the compressor’s low cost of ownership and high resale value.
The compressor’s spillage-free frame contains 110 percent of the unit’s fluids if a leak occurs. This eliminates the risk of accidentally contaminating jobsites and gives the contractor peace of mind on environmentally sensitive projects.
The compressor is mounted to a single-axle trailer for maximum portability; it can even be towed by small automobiles. The trailer axle can be removed to accommodate a support frame that can be mounted to a truck bed, trailer or other platform, making the compressor ideal for utility and small-scale sandblasting applications.
Additionally, the XAS 110’s controls are grouped on a single panel to provide quick, hassle-free operation. Atlas Copco uses similar controls on all of its compressors, which makes it easy for operators to switch between models without requiring additional training. A durable cover protects the controls against harsh worksite conditions and weather.
Atlas Copco offers a wide range of optional features for the compressor, including wheel chocks, a loose ball coupling and an Occupational Safety and Health Administration-rated valve that automatically shuts off the air flow if a surge occurs, which prevents a loose hose from whipping and minimizes the risk of injuries.
