AMETEK launches enhanced GEMCO®955 eBrik IITM LDT

By Jennifer Calhoon | January 9, 2015

AMETEK Factory Automation has re-launched its versatile GEMCO® 955 eBrik IITM Linear Displacement Transducer (LDT) with a redesigned connector end cap, an expanded stroke range up to 74 inches (1875 mm) and improved shock and vibration performance.

The 955 eBrik II LDT was developed specifically for original equipment manufacturers and targeted to the market for linear potentiometers typically found in plastics, tire and rubber, web tensioning, factory automation and hydroelectric operations. It utilizes the latest generation of field-proven magnetostrictive position-sensing technology that offers accurate and reliable absolute position indication along with high resolution and precision repeatability.

The rugged and durable construction of the 955 eBrik IITM LDT (100Gs of shock and 15Gs of vibration) makes it suitable for the most demanding applications. The unit is resistant to contaminants and environmental conditions and is IP67 rated.

The self-contained 955 eBrik IITM LDT does not have a can or head. All of its electronics are incorporated within the unit, which is less than an inch in height (profile). A streamlined anodized aluminum extrusion houses the sensing element and electronics. The magnet moves over the sensing element that interpolates the position and converts it to a readable output.

The 955 eBrik IITM LDT is easy to install and set up and is available in stroke lengths from 1” to 74” long. The sensor offers field programmable zero and span settings and features an electronic diagnostic feedback that is transmitted through the analog output so the host controller can tell if the device has failed or moved out of the programmed range.

The 955 eBrik IITM LDT offers a variety of analog output signals (0 to 10VDC, or 4 to 20mA) for maximum connectivity and utilizes standard off-the-shelf cordsets for maximum value. Its low power consumption (1.1 watt typical) allows direct connection to display and control interface modules.

Typical applications for the 955 eBrik IITM LDT include plastic injection molding, extrusion equipment, tire and rubber, hydraulic stamping presses, die casting, lumber and forest product equipment, material handling, web tensioning, and factory automation.

GEMCO LDTs are known for their flawless performance in extreme environmental conditions and are the preferred product for fast and accurate continuous linear position feedback. They are able to detect movement down to .0001″ and report position information back every millisecond.
