While attending the 32nd Annual NAHAD Convention, Fluid Power World Assistant Editor Michelle DiFrangia spoke with Craig Anderson, VP of Sales, RYCO, and Jon Cook, NA Sales Manager, RYCO, about what’s hot on the market for the company right now and what their focus is on for the future.
Craig Anderson said JSeal, which has been in the market for about a year, is becoming one of the company’s biggest products.
“It’s kind of an upgrade to the JIC design,” said Jon Cook, adding that since its release, it has been performing well and is well received within the marketplace.
“We definitely have a story to tell about it,” Cook continued. “We’re really giving people ORFS pressures in a JIC fitting. And from the stand point of ease of use, it’s just great. You don’t have to worry about O-rings falling out, and customers love the fact that they can just torque it and torque it and it doesn’t go anywhere but it just gets tighter.”
In looking to the future, Anderson said the company’s primary focus is on distribution. “We’ve got a marketing strategy that’s been in place for years and we’re just trying to expand on that,” he said. “We really feel like it’s going to be a combination of us moving our market share up to where we’re going to be with the big guys that are out there right now. It’s going to be through new distribution and new products and innovative products to the OEM world.”
And what better way to develop new and innovate products than by hiring bright, innovative, young talent. The challenge, however, lies in making this industry attractive to students fresh out of college, as Anderson points out.
“We want to continue to go after the stem graduates, we need engineers, we need technical people, and we can teach them how to sell in many cases,” he said, “but they have got to have that technical background to really be able to get out in front of the customer and be credible right from the beginning.”
When interviewing for new hires, Anderson said he’s looking for leadership and passion. “And I’m looking for folks that have had some kind of success, whether it be in school sports, social aspects, whatever the case may be, success certainly does breed success,” he concluded.
