Technology innovations highlighted during the FPTC 2019

With its return to MSOE next week, the Fluid Power Technology Conference will once again bring together design engineers, distributors, and end users with manufacturers and industry educators.

Key to the fluid power industry is innovation and users will see several examples of this throughout the event during technical sessions and at exhibitor booths. Two sessions highlighting technological product innovations come from Freudenberg Sealing Technologies and Dura-Bar.

thomas-frolichUp first on Monday, May 14 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. will be Freudenberg’s Thomas Fröhlich, who will present on the “Development of an innovative diaphragm accumulator design and assembly process.” Freudenberg has developed a new concept for the manufacture of diaphragm accumulators. Its advantages are a reduced need for components, fewer process steps, shorter assembly times, a higher level of product cleanliness, and an expansion of the product portfolio into additional fields of application. These diaphragm accumulators also weigh significantly less. This is opening up new opportunities for applications in the automotive and industrial fields. The assembly concept is based on a hermetically sealed pressure chamber in which the joining of the two housing halves with the help electromagnetic pulse technology (EMPT) as well as the filling of the gas side with nitrogen takes place in a single operation. In In this way, downstream filling to generate the initial gas charge is no longer necessary.

Fröhlich is the Leader of Global Accumulator Marketing & Sales for Freudenberg Sealing Technologies within the Lead Center Accumulator, headquartered in Germany, Remagen. In this role Fröhlich is responsible for the Strategic Accumulator Product Portfolio and market approach for this product line.

Fröhlich has more than 25 years global experience in B2B business, in investment industries starting with fluid power, mobile machinery, but also automotive. He earned an MBA in business engineering at KIT, Karlsruhe, Germany and lived for three years in the USA. Since 2015 he works in the Lead Center Accumulators of Freudenberg Sealing Technologies (former Integral Akkumulator and Tobul Accumulators).

jason-parrUp next at 11 to 11:30 a.m. will be Jason Parr of Dura-Bar, with his presentation “A new kind of iron: Solution Strengthened Ductile Iron.” Charter Dura‐Bar, the largest North American producer of continuous cast iron bars, will discuss the benefits and advantages of a newly introduced grade of ductile iron, Solution Strengthened Ductile Iron. With excellent strength and ductility, SSDI can be used in a wide variety of fluid power applications. One of the key features of SSDI is enhanced machinability, yielding productivity increases of approximately 30%.

Parr is currently a Product Manager at Dura-Bar, focused specifically on the fluid power market. He has 17 years of experience in product management and product marketing across several industries including mobile devices, telecommunications, telematics, digital mapping, automotive solutions, and manufacturing. He holds a B.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a M.B.A from Loyola University Chicago.
