otc_cmyk_colourAfter a record-setting 2014, OTC (Offshore Technical Conference) is looking to continue to build on that momentum for the 2015 iteration of the event, with new innovative, motivational programs. Last year’s OTC reached a 46-year high of 108,300 attendees, the highest in show history, and up 3.3% from 2013.

OTC highlights a variety of technologies—including more than 100 fluid power manufacturers and distributors—for offshore drilling, exploration, production and environmental protection. The massive exhibition, which featured 2,568 exhibiting companies last year, will be held at NRG Park in Houston from May 4 to 7 and expects to attract thousands of engineers, technicians, executives, operators, scientists and managers from more than 130 countries and all fields in the offshore energy industry.

In addition to a conference with 45 technical sessions, 29 breakfast and luncheon presentations, 11 panel and four poster sessions, this year will feature a new post-conference event on Friday, May 8. Called the d5 and themed “The Next Big Thing,” it will be held at the University of Houston to bring together professionals from inside and outside the industry to foster innovation and inspiration to address the industry’s most crucial current and future challenges. Nine speakers, including political scientists, motivational speakers, economists, entrepreneurs, educators and military leaders, will discuss opportunities for the offshore energy industry and help identify the next big step for the industry.

Throughout the actual four-day event, conference and breakfast topics include overviews on specific regions such as Brazil, Indonesia, Ghana, Angola, Canada, Panama, Saudi Arabia and the Arctic. In addition, attendees can learn about innovations in pumps and pipes, deepwater technology advances, wellhead integrity, remote drilling, reservoir management and several other topics critical to engineers.

In addition, several special events will also take place throughout the conference, including The Next Wave, a program for young professionals that will address what is needed to obtain a job in these new markets and how to become a driving force for the future of the industry. An R&D Showcase will also highlight innovative research being done at the university level, while the Spotlight on New Technologies showcases the latest advances in the industry.
