One of the best parts of my job as an editor of Fluid Power World is the community. The fluid power people are some of the kindest and most compassionate individuals I meet at trade shows and gatherings. They’re juxtaposed against the brawn and grit of the technology and the environments where fluid power is applied.
That’s quite an introduction to a press release, but I wanted to take a moment to personally acknowledge the thoughtfulness and give-back mentality of many fluid power people and companies. One such company, Bailey International, headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, emailed me about its community support program, in which it partners with employees to identify a new set of charities every quarter to bring positive, measurable change to local communities.
Bailey employees nominate charities in their locales, and then an internal committee selects the charities the company will support each quarter. This initiative focuses on supporting non-profit organizations doing critical work in their respective areas.
“Bailey is committed to giving back to the communities that sustain us,” stated Ken Baker, CEO of Bailey International. “While we serve our customers with high-quality electro-hydraulics solutions, we are most proud of the impactful initiatives that improve the quality of the lives in our world.”
This quarter, the company selected the following organizations and their essential projects:
- Hope Public Charitable Trust’s new residential home in Chennai, India, created for children with intellectual disabilities and autism. Essential donations include cots, washing machines, and multimedia equipment, which will significantly enhance the living conditions and well-being of these children.
- FeedNC to help provide meals to children in need across North Carolina.
- Club de l’Age d’or de Mascouche, an organization dedicated to alleviating isolation and loneliness among seniors aged 50 and over. Bailey’s support funds activities and social events that promote community and well-being for seniors.
- Corporation de la Maison des Citoyens, which provides food to individuals in need and facilitates socialization to combat isolation.
- University of Victoria’s 30 by 30 Women in Engineering Award that was established to honor the memory of the 14 women engineers murdered in the Montreal Massacre. This award encourages and supports women pursuing a career in engineering.
- Childhood Cancer Family Support, a non-profit organization that provides non-medical financial assistance for household bills, groceries, and fuel expenses to families with children fighting cancer.
